I was looking at an ad for a nice red on saddle brown Porsche 928, with a 5 speed. And it said it was running until the owner pulled off the fuel distributor because it was a crack, causing fuel to leak out of it.

Which lead me to wonder, why not just get a new one, they can’t be that expensive...right?

Ouch. I found another source that was $799, after a 200 dollar code return.

I’m more interested in how difficult it would be to convert to an electronic engine management like a Haltech.

Did the 928 have 2 ECUs? (1 per bank)

Would be tough to program  a standalone if so

I’m not sure.

As far as I know with these newer stand along systems all you need is rpm, firing order, air fuel mixture, and it can figure out the rest.

But I also got all my knowledge from half paying attention to YouTube videos

I was thinking more about the separate signals going out to each bank.

But I guess someone makes a standalone setup for those so its just a matter of finding them.

Computers, we don’t need no stinkin computers....... I don’t think there are any ECU’s on a CIS 928. The CIS injection is a mechanical system + a simple di s t ributor for ignition . At least that is how my ‘80 Rabbit worked.

Had to Google it but that is way too many banjo bolts. I am sure the intake could be modified to use normal injectors/fuel rails and an aftermarket computer but man that would be way more expensive than a new fuel distributor.

That person needs to lay down the pipe in my opinion.

I’ve been keeping an eye on the 928 market because I want my next project to be a 928 with an EV swap(Tesla small drive unit and say 30kwh ). But my pipe dreams and limited abilities aside, a non-running 928 ain’t worth a whole lot even if it is a 5 speed.

Oh sorry by lay down the pipe I meant the crack pipe. “Put” would have been a better word there. And yes the euphemism is the same here. As I remember, that guy is asking like $5,000-6,000 for a nice and clean but still non-running 928. Sorry dude, swallow the $1,500-2,000 bill if you want to sell it.

Also , I need to stop posting while cooking dinner and parenting solo . My posts are very unclear when I’m doing 3 things at once . Manuals are worth way more .

And for the record, if I try to desecrate a 928- I will make sure it’s a non-running automatic.

Oooh. I get it.

I totally understand, sometimes I’ll be trying a post, or reply and the look down and realize that I typed the wrong words because I was also listening to my son tell me about his Pokémon team and how they all need to reach level 41, or maybe 43 because he tries to beat that next gym leader.

I have huge respect for any single parent. I watch my sister struggle with it for years. My wife was sick in bed all last week, and quarantining herself there because we thought it might be the ‘rona . That was the closest to a single parent this I think I could handle.
